The Law

England will officially become smoke-free at 6am on 1st July 2007. From that date it will become unlawful to smoke in most indoor public places. The law also covers almost all workplaces (offices, factories and other premises which are being used wholly or mainly as a place of work).

The law will prohibit smoking in "enclosed" or "substantially enclosed" premises. Substantially enclosed premises are those with a ceiling or roof but with permanent openings in the walls which are less than half of the total wall area.

All our smoking shelters comply with the law

Businesses and employers can still provide outdoor smoking shelters for their staff, customers and visitors, provided they comply with the statutory provisions set out above on enclosed and substantially enclosed premises (there is no obligation to provide this type of facility. Planning permission or building consent may still be needed).
